U of L has released the notice of allegations sent to it by the NCAA, which details the claims of wrongdoing being levied against Cardinal football assistant Clint Hurtt.

You can read the NoA in full here.

The notice claims that Hurtt:

--Received a $2,500 interest-free loan from then Miami booster Nevin Shapiro, which he later paid back.

--Provided impermissible benefits to multiple Miami recruits. The impermissible benefits included:

1) Transportation, meals and lodging.

2) Allowing recruits to stay at his residence for no cost.

3) Taking recruits to Shapiro's residence where they hung out with other Miami football players.

4) A meal at Grazie Italian Cuisine with football recruits and players, the total value of which was deemed to be at least $529.

More damning than those allegations, however, is the one that Hurtt provided "false and misleading information" during an interview with the NCAA on Nov. 3, 2011. Unless Hurtt can prove this accusation false, he will found guilty of breaking the NCAA's 10.1 ethical conduct contract, a transgression which will likely result in a show-cause penalty.

The accusation isn't good news for Hurtt's job security.

An SI.com study of the past 177 NCAA infractions cases involving violations of Bylaw 10.1 revealed that coaches accused of such violations rarely retain their jobs.

...

Of the 177 cases, 172 involved coaches or athletic administrators accused of committing unethical conduct. Of those, 159 resigned or were terminated. Eighty-one cases involved coaches or athletics administrators accused of providing false or misleading information to NCAA investigators or encouraging others to lie to investigators. Of those, 78 resigned or were terminated.

Among the names included in the statistics listed above are former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel and former Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl.

If Hurtt is found guilty of breaking Bylaw 10.1, then he would likely face a show-cause penalty. If that happens, then Louisville will have three options: 1) Terminate Hurtt; 2) Keep Hurtt and face sanctions from the NCAA; 3) Fight the NCAA's ruling and risk facing the same result as option two.

Earlier today, the University of Louisville confirmed that assistant football coach Clint Hurtt had received his notice of allegations from the NCAA. Now we're getting a little bit more information as to what those allegations entail.

According to Associated Press sources, Louisville's Clint Hurtt is one of three former Miami assistants who has been accused by the NCAA of purposefully misleading the investigation and violating "principals of ethical conduct."

The AP says several other coaches were named in the NCAA's, including Missouri basketball coach Frank Haith, but only the three assistants are accused of breaking the NCAA's 10.1 ethical conduct contract.

The accusation isn't good news for Hurtt's job security.

Earlier on Wednesday, a source told WDRB that Hurtt says he has a strong defense and will aggressively seek to counter the charges against him. For the sake of his future at U of L, I hope that's the case.

U of L has confirmed that assistant football coach Clint Hurtt received a notice of allegations from the NCAA regarding alleged violations that occurred during his stint as recruiting coordinator at Miami. A spokesperson also confirmed to WDRB's Eric Crawford that "none of the alleged allegations occurred at U of L."

Two summers ago, Yahoo released the results of an extensive 11-month investigation into the University of Miami football program which revealed rampant NCAA rule-breaking. Hurtt was named multiple times in the report.

Multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports Shapiro also violated NCAA rules with football assistant Joe Pannunzio, although the booster refused to answer any questions about that relationship. Shapiro also named assistant football equipment manager Sean Allen as someone who engaged in rulebreaking, and equipment managers Ralph Nogueras and Joey Corey as witnesses to some of his impropriety.

Among the specific incidents, Shapiro or other sources say Hurtt, Hill, Stoutland, Pannunzio and Allen all delivered top-tier recruits to Shapiro's home or luxury suite so the booster could make recruiting pitches to them. Among the players who were ushered to Shapiro while they were still in high school: Eventual Miami commitments Ray-Ray Armstrong, Dyron Dye and Olivier Vernon (prompted by Hurtt); eventual Florida commitments Andre Debose (Hurtt) and Matt Patchan (prompted by Stoutland and Pannunzio); eventual Georgia commitment Orson Charles (Pannunzio); and eventual Central Florida commitment Jeffrey Godfrey (Allen).

Which leads us to today's news.

As annoying as it is for Louisville to be involved in this NCAA/Miami mess in any capacity, it's important to remember that neither U of L nor the Cardinal football program are being accused of any wrongdoing. The worst case scenario for Louisville in all of this is that they have to part ways with Hurtt, and it's looking more and more like that's a bridge that won't be crossed.

The NCAA has botched this whole thing about as badly as you can botch anything, and the likelihood of Hurtt being dealt a punishment that would force U of L to let him go is far less likely than it was just a few months ago. It's also just as unlikely that this whole mess will be settled before any member of the 2013 recruiting class graduates.
