Any hope that a two-week break and a reassurance that the team’s head coach was staying the head coach would light a fire under the 2023-24 Louisville men’s basketball team was quickly put to rest Wednesday evening.
The Cardinals lost their 22nd consecutive road game — a streak which now covers over two full calendar years — with a lifeless 77-53 defeat to Virginia in Charlottesville.
Freshman reserve Curtis Williams was Louisville’s lone bright spot on Wednesday, coming off the bench to record a team-high 14 points. Mike James was the only other Cardinal to score in double figures, finishing with 11. No U of L player shot better than 50.0 percent from the field.
Virginia existed mostly unbothered when it had the ball in its hands all night. As a result, the Cavaliers drilled 10 three-pointers and shot 51.7 percent from the floor as a team.
Louisville is now 2-21 in ACC games under the direction of head coach Kenny Payne, and 0-20 in games away from the KFC Yum Center.
Two and a half months of this left.
