Soon two conferences are about to separate themselves from all other conferences when it comes to amount money they will be making. The BIG and SEC will generate about $30M+ a year over and above other schools. Over the years that will add up quickly and will affect all other sporting programs in a major way. This will be a big help for all sports across the board from softball to field hockey to baseball.
- Facilities, playing, practice, locker rooms
- Head coach’s salaries
- Assistant coach’s salaries across the board
- NIL money funding
- Eventually you will have assistant coaches at the elite schools making more then head coaches at other schools. Some of this happens now but you know my concern is where will Louisville land. Some sports writers say there is not much the ACC can do. Well, you can bicker back and forth trying to pick each other apart and try to survive like the PAC 12 and Big 12 or you can do nothing like the ACC. You can sit back and listen to people like the ex-Big 10 Commissioner talk out of both sides of their mouth. He vowed to work with other conferences only to turn around and go behind their back and invite some of their top-notch schools.
Yes, the ACC is going to pay for performance for football and basketball, but this is like putting a band aid on an open wound.
THOUGHT: Things can happen but sometimes big change does not come easy, and it would take some special people to get this many schools together. Should the PAC 12, BIG 12 and ACC come together to make a Super Conference. There will be the ACC division, The BIG 12 division, and the PAC 12 division. This would open negotiations for TV rights. With more Sports outlets showing more interest in college football the time for this is now.
- Do the Super Conference schools not play BIG or SEC schools during the regular season leaving them to beat on themselves?
- Does the Super Conference have a four-game playoff, three automatic and one at large?
- Does each division have 14, 16, 18, or 20 teams.
- Does this prevent FSU and Clemson form looking elsewhere knowing they will be a big fish in a small pond instead of a small fish in a big pond.
- Is the Super Conference just set up for football and basketball and the divisions exist independently for all other sports but reap the benefits of the Super Conference TV contract.
I know there are a lot of other details that need to be worked out, but this is just a THOUGHT instead of doing nothing.
