Louisville’s loss to Kentucky dropped the Cardinals from No. 10 to No. 14 in the latest installment of the College Football Playoff Rankings, which were released Tuesday night on ESPN.
U of L will play for the ACC championship on Saturday night against an undefeated Florida State team that checked in at No. 4 in the latest rankings. The Seminoles, presumably, are in a “win and they’re in” situation as it pertains to the College Football Playoff.
Here are the full rankings as we head into conference championship weekend:
- Florida State
- Ohio Stata
- Penn State
- Ole Miss
- Notre Dame
- Oklahoma State
- NC State
- Oregon State
- Kansas State
With a win over Florida State, Louisville would ruin Florida State’s playoff chances and lock up the ACC’s bid to the Orange Bowl. Even with a loss to the Seminoles, the Cards would almost certainly be headed to Miami.
The only way that doesn’t happen is if FSU falls out of the top four in the final playoff rankings, or if Louisville gets jumped in the rankings by NC State. The Wolfpack currently sit five spots behind the Cards ... and have one less victory than U of L and a home loss to the Cardinals.
