The fifth-ranked Louisville volleyball team moved to 9-0 on the 2021 season with a thrilling five-set win over No. 8 and reigning national champion Kentucky Wednesday night in front of a record crowd at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

The Cardinal victory snapped a 7-game winning streak in the series by Kentucky.

After falling behind 9-7 in the decisive final set, Louisville ripped off eight consecutive points to win the match and send the home crowd into a frenzy.

Louisville, which advanced to its first regional final in 2019 and made it back to the Sweet 16 a year ago, is currently enjoying the highest ranking in program history. The Cards are also a win at Nebraska on Saturday away from wrapping up the non-conference portion of its season with a perfect 10-0 mark.

Dani Busboom-Kelly has done wonders with this program over the last four years, but one of the only things she hadn’t accomplished since being hired in 2017 was take down Kentucky.
