Thoughts: Williams, through the miracle of great timing and number selection, is included in this years countdown even though he only officially joined the program back on July 23rd. Playing JUCO for Southwest Mississippi Shavarick put up some numbers the last couple years, including over 40 tackles in just a six game season in 2020. He also snagged an INT last year and had a handful of PBUs. As a freshman the defensive back also filled up the stat sheet, credited with 49 tackles, a sack, an INT, two PBUs, and a partridge in a pear tree.

The connection to Louisville came through SMCC Head Coach Cliff Collins who played between the lines with none other than Coach Bryan Brown. Collins connected with Brown, Brown liked what he saw, Williams toured Louisville in late June and then boom, two weeks later he’s officially a Card….and then two weeks later he’s on the Countdown. Life comes at you fast.

While my expectations for Williams in 2021 are a bit unfounded I do think he can be a contributor this year. Not having a ton of time to review any tape and not really seeing him compete yet at this level the fall will tell the story as to where he lands come September 6^th. While I doubt he’s cracking the starting spot at either corner or safety I’ve been surprised before. If nothing else, he may be a solid special teams contributor as I know he’s been on return teams in the past. Eager to see what Williams brings to the squad.
