Thoughts: Around the middle of June in 2020 the once former Virginia Tech commit TJ Quinn decided he had a change of heart and committed to following in his father’s (Terry) footsteps and join the Cards in 2021. Louisville not only beat out Va Tech but around 30 other schools chasing Quinn for his speed and athleticism.
The Top 100 Georgia recruit could be a nice addition to the Cards defense in seasons to come. While I’ve seen a few different numbers the football/track star has sub 10.9 speed in the 100m and as you can see on his film below has some burners he can turn on to cover large areas. The other impressive thing I saw was his ability to get guys on the ground. One of the big concerns with putting a young guy in “center field” is that he’s the last line of defense between a 15 yard gain across the middle or a “missed tackle, 75 yard touchdown”. In the clip you can see that he takes good angles, and has a good football IQ when it comes to reading plays or seeing the play develop. It’s always easier to make a tackle when you put yourself in the proper position.
While the media guide depth chart had Quinn in the three deep at linebacker I think he’s got some flexibility on that side of the ball with his size and speed to land in a few different places. Interested to see how the fall plays out and how the staff can use him in the next few years.

I was scrolling through TJ’s timeline at work putting this post together and someone stopped by my desk…..and it dawned on me I’m a grown man watching a 17 year old do squats on the internet. Not weird at all. (The things I do for you guys!)
