#14 Gabe Krug
Class: Freshman
Ht/Wt: 6-1/200
Position: Quarterback
Hometown: El Cajon, CA
Twitter: @gabekrug9
Thoughts: Gabe was a late add for the Cards back in April coming in as a walk-on out of El Cajon, California. Gabe was getting some sniffs from a few other schools but was keeping an eye on Louisville from across the country because, in his own words, “I’ve always been a fan of Louisville and the great quarterbacks that have come out of the program…” Pretty cool that a young man from over 2,000 miles away is watching what the Cards are doing.
Krug was limited last year due to an injury so he only played in two games his Senior season, but in the clips below you can see he not only has a mini cannon, but he’s got a little giddy up in his bag as well. Always glad to have 4-5 QBs on the roster to not only push each other, but as we’ve seen in years past we can get to QB#3 very quickly if things go off the rails or with injuries. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen and we can just enjoy the rhythmic motions of Krug on the sidelines in 2021.

“Oh yeah, well my QB could make that throw standing on one foot…”

#14 Marvin Dallas
Class: Junior
Ht/Wt: 6-1/195
Position: Linebacker
Hometown: Brunswick, GA
Twitter: @14k_Dalljasr
Thoughts: The Cards picked up Marvin last year out of Georgia Military, ranked as the #1 JUCO at OLB in the country. Dallas came in the program and was getting some reps situationally on defense as well as special teams last year. He suffered an injury in 2020 that limited his participation but a healthy Dallas is back and ready to compete.
With the departure of Rodjay Burns the all important ‘Card’ position was open for someone to take that spot. As I spoke about back on Day 38 Jack Fagot slid down from safety to get some reps in that position and seemed to be acting as a solid placeholder while Dallas got up to speed. When the Cards released that summer depth chart last month Marvin was the starter in that position, which is what I believe many anticipated as the former track athlete can cover space, but also make plays in the open field. I think Dallas and Fagot will split time but if Marvin plays as well as he’s capable of we may see less of Jack as the season wears on. When you talk about depth and talent at the LB position CJ, Monty, and even Yasir are the more notable names right now, but Marvin will slide up there with those guys sooner than later as he continues to get reps and learn a challenging position.
The benefit for the Cards is that I believe Marvin was a “3 to play 2” guy out of JUCO but the free season means they can use his services for another two years.
