#52 Tim Lawson
Position: Offensive Line
Hometown: Fort Washington, MD
Thoughts: Lawson joined the Cards last year as Ledford was trying to bolster the depth in that O-Line group, knowing they had some talent up top but were lacking those second and third string guys. An inverse pyramid if you will, or the guy who skips leg day at the gym. Neither is a good visual, and something needed to be done. Lawson was a solid grab as the Cards fought off some ACC competition in NC State and UNC during his recruitment, but no one really projected him to be an immediate contributor last year. Lawson took what would typically be considered a redshirt season, but since last year “everything is made up and the points don’t matter” Lawson is still a true freshman in the books, and that extra year could pay off really well for Tim and for UofL.
If you asked me back in January/February I thought Lawson had a good shot at being in the two deep heading into the fall of 2021, but the play of Gonzalez and Kandra, as well as the addition of Hudson and Daniels has potentially impacted that projection, and that’s no knock on Lawson. Satterfield, and now Bicknell have stacked up some talented bodies in that room and as I’ve stated the last couple weeks they could go 8-9 deep without much issue. If Lawson is outside that rotation this year (redshirt) it gives him another year to add some size, learn from some vets and potentially prepare to be a key contributor in 2022 with three years in a program but still four seasons of eligibility. I like Lawson’s game and seeing him add some weight is key to getting him on the field. I feel pretty confident he’ll be a known commodity this time next season, if he doesn’t break out even sooner.
