Louisville basketball adds JUCO forward Sydney Curry to 2021-22 roster

The Cards just got bigger for 2021-22.

Louisville Cityscapes And City Views

Louisville has added 6’8, 260-pound forward Sydney Curry to its roster for the 2021-22 season. Curry, who had previously been committed to Kansas, comes to U of L from John A. Logan junior college, where he was the Great Rivers Athletic Conference Player of the Year last season.

Curry, who has three seasons of eligibility remaining, is expected to arrive on U of L’s campus this weekend.

“We are super excited to add Sydney Curry to our roster,” said U of L head men’s basketball Coach Chris Mack in a statement. “To add a player of Syd’s ability this late provides a real boost to our front court. He has a unique combination of strength, athleticism and skill. His summer will obviously be condensed, but he’s excited as are we to get him going as a Cardinal.”

As a freshman at John Logan last season, Curry averaged 12.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and shot 69.4 percent from the field. He was a Third Team 2021 NJCAA All-America and comes to U of L ranked as the No. 8 junior college recruit in America.

Curry adds depth to a U of L frontcourt that includes multiple players coming off of injury-plagued seasons. He’s a solid finisher and rim protector who should be able to play both the 4 and the 5 in Chris Mack’s system.

Louisville still has one scholarship available for the 2021-22 season. Obviously, it would love to use that scholarship on Minnesota transfer Marcus Carr, who is currently on a visit to perceived favorite Texas.

Welcome aboard, Sydney.
