Thoughts: Black was a first team all-state player out of Stone Mountain, Georgia a few years back and in year one under Satterfield he got a few opportunities to show out, playing in four games both on the line and on special teams. He kept his redshirt, then got to see some reps last year, including getting a start in the final game of the season at right guard against Wake Forest. Black, coming out of high school, was identified as someone who could really help the run game as he was a bit undersized and had good speed. Although, when I watched the Wake game again I thought he actually performed a bit better in pass blocking than “advertised”. He had few hiccups but I never really saw a blow-bye or saw him get pushed around in the middle. I was impressed enough that I think he can creep back into the rotation this year and provide relief situationally.

While the starting five is not yet chiseled the front runners are likely Reid, Chandler, Bentley, Boone, and Brown with Kandra, Hudson, Baynes, and even Gonzalez getting in the mix as well. Black has a shot to make that leap as well but the benefit for him is that with the free year of eligibility he’s still a freshman, and has four years to work his way not only into a rotation but to earn a starting spot on that line, which I think he will do before he leaves.
