Louisville was able to add some veteran talent to their Cornerback room today with the addition of Iowa Western CC Cornerback Trey Franklin. Franklin was a NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention recipient at Defensive Back and comes to Louisville after one season at Buffalo and one year at the JUCO level. He is originally from Warner Robins, Georgia where Bryan Brown routinely recruits.

Franklin is a little undersized at 5-10/175 but he has long limbs and he has no issue with throwing his body around as a tackler. He is a cover corner from the standpoint that he excels at turning and running with receivers and he shows good speed in his highlights. Lousiville requires their corners to assist in run support so it is good to see Franklin making open-field tackles, especially on runners outside the box.

It is hard to know if Franklin will be able to make the transition to Power Five football but it’s also fair to note that the same questions were raised when Ke’Trel Clark joined the roster last fall. While Franklin fits what the defense does at the Cornerback spot, he doesn’t have experience at this level and didn’t see the field for Buffalo during his time there. Time will tell if he can add value to Bryan Brown’s defense but Louisville is getting a player that should add depth to a group that needs it.

Franklin will join the team this summer with three years of eligibility.
