Bummer.

There will be no Louisville team in this year’s TBT after all.

Just hours after releasing the full roster for the “3-Time Champs” squad, coach/organizer Keith Oddo announced on social media that he had just received word that the team was not selected for this year’s The Basketball Tournament event. Among other reasons, the TBT selection committee was concerned that the team didn’t include more brand-named Cardinal players.

With guys like Peyton Siva and Kyle Kuric still competing in Europe and Earl Clark already committed to play in the Big 3 league, getting the highest-profile former Louisville players was a near-impossible task for Oddo. Still, he managed to get commitments from players like Jerry Smith, Samardo Samuels, Chane Behanan and Wayne Blackshear, all guys I would assume the average college basketball fan would remember.

No word on whether or not 3-Time Champs was the first team left out of the field or whether they could be included if another team has to withdraw for Covid reasons.

What is clear is that selection committees continue to be ruthlessly unkind to Louisville in 2021.
