Thoughts: It was tough to comb through any articles, videos, or recaps this spring without hearing the name ‘Ashton Gillotte’. The young man from Del Boca Vista Boca Raton, Florida enrolled early and is coming in hot both literally (fastest 40 time on the D-Line) and figuratively (Co-Defensive Newcomer during Spring Ball). Gillotte played both sides of the ball for Boca Raton but it was his defensive prowess that caught the eye of Coach Ivey and Coach Dennison. Gillotte had a solid High School career and wrapped it up with a state title and being named the Palm Beach 8A-6A Defensive Player of the Year last season, but appears to be unsatisfied, and looking to make a name early here in Louisville.

Gillotte has certainly shown off his speed since arriving but has not shied away from showing off some aggressiveness as well. A ‘relentless’ attitude as described by Coach Brown could land Ashton on the field on gamedays sooner than expected. While I think we have some solid ends with some experience that may be tough to best don’t be surprised if Ashton is seeing reps early and getting a shot to perform off the edge in the right situations. When watching some of his tape he absolutely has a motor and you can see his technique is already pretty tight. A few lb’s from the nutrition staff is likely but I think getting him in a Power 5 weight room is going to be like taking Cole Bentley to a buffet, the kid is gonna eat, and that strength will help him at this level going up against some large linemen in the ACC. Even with limited reps my pre-season prediction is Gillotte notches his first collegiate sack before the halfway point of the season, and puts himself in a great spot for 2022 and beyond.

Sweet Tweet:

Gillotte gets some advice from CJ about football, Louisville, and food. Now he’s just gotta hit him up with pointers on that ‘beard game’.
