First team out: Louisville misses NCAA tournament

The Cards will only play in the Big Dance if a team currently in the field has to withdraw before Thursday.

As it turns out, Oregon State’s upset of Colorado in the Pac-12 tournament title game in the wee hours of Sunday morning knocked Louisville out of the NCAA tournament.

The Cards did not hear their name called during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show. At least not before 68 other teams did.

U of L was named as the tournament’s first “replacement team.” If an at-large participant in the tournament is forced to withdraw between now and the start of play on Thursday, Louisville will take their place. Once the tournament begins, any withdraws will result in a forfeit for the team that has to pull out.

So, yeah, this really sucks.

Naturally, the one time in the last few years where like 85 percent of Bracketologists were wrong about one particular team, it was us.

We’ve been forced to deal with a number of very, very bitter pills to swallow over the last several years. This is the most recent.
