Position: Defensive Back

Hometown: Miami, FL

Thoughts: While Chandler has been a big part of the secondary the last couple seasons, he is in jeopardy of losing some reps due to some fresh faces in their group, and that may not be the worst thing for him.

While any big time player at any level always wants to be on the field, Jones not only played in all 13 games last year but started all 13 games as well and was on the field a lot. As his neighboring corner position rotated between Mbanasor, Johnson, Sturghill, and Character, Chandler was holding down his side consistently, and I think we saw a few instances were fatigue was a factor in his coverage and his speed both at the end of games and as the season wore on. Chandler is a guy Louisville needs to play at his highest level as breaking in the youngbloods may be painful, but a necessary evil at times.

While I still think Jones is a starter and arguably the best corner in the group he should be excited that Trel Clark, Greedy Vance, and Marqui Lowery are there to give him a few blows. While the linebackers are stacked with experience and the defensive line is riddled with upperclassmen in the two deep the cornerbacks will likely only lose one player after this year and will return a group that I think will see plenty of reps this season and should be one of the bright spots in 2021

As a father there are certain things no one ever ‘tells’ you to do, but somehow, over the course of time, they are just embedded into your DNA and you have no choice but to do them. Tell Dad jokes, say “hey, what’s going on in there” anytime you heard an odd noise, actually care about your lawn/home, and for some reason ALWAYS put your hand on your kids shoulder when taking a photo.
