Russ Smith, local attorney Nick Wilson and Councilwoman Donna Purvis have teamed up for a renovation project that will revitalize Louisville’s Lannan Park.

The project is set to include a renovation of the park’s basketball court, which will include a mural that honors the life of Breonna Taylor.

“Our community is facing troublesome times, anytime we can bring unity and some level of closure I want to be involved. This basketball court renovation in Lannan Park will be the beginning of hope and change as our city attempts to move forward,” says Councilwoman Purvis.

Realizing parks are a connection point for children and families, the partnership believes that Lannan Memorial Park will bring a spirit of understanding and community following the tragic loss of Miss Taylor. The idea came about following several meetings with Metro Parks to explore options.

“Basketball has opened many doors for me, and I’m fortunate to give back to the community through the game I love. My hope is through myself and the massive help of others this project will spread awareness & bring positivity to our community, city, and state,” says Russ Smith, former U of L Basketball All American.

Through his foundation, which was created in late 2017, Russ has spearheaded several projects that have given back to the community that embraced him throughout his tenure as a Cardinal ... although especially the last three years.
