Thoughts: There are a handful of players who I believe were greatly impacted by the shortened spring practice time period and Zach is one of those guys. Coming into the program last season I thought Zach had an outside change to contribute as a true freshman depending upon how the roster shook out heading into the fall but I was perfectly okay with him taking a redshirt and filling out his jersey a bit more if you know what I mean. The 6-6 athlete from West Virginia came in at around 275, but that frame would allow him to carry a bit more size and still maintain his movement and speed. The staff did just that over the last year and a half and he’s now sitting around that 290 mark (still under 300, as we discussed a few days ago).
One of the reasons I lumped Zach into the group hurt by the limited spring session was because I honestly felt as if he could be a threat to push for some significant PT this year with enough reps under his belt. His size is good, his speed is good, his run blocking looks solid, and he has the drive per Coach Ledford to be a really good offensive lineman. The focus is on Adonis Boone this summer to try and replace Becton but it may turn into a “replacement by committee” situation as I think Boone, Reid, and Williamson may all get a crack at filling in that void at one point or another. The Cards have stacked up some depth on the interior as we’ve discussed previously but they will need a player like Williamson to take on a larger role this year at the tackle spot. I fully expect Ledford and Satterfield to shift some guys around during the fall but don’t be surprised if Williamson is solidified somewhere on the two deep by the time September rolls around.

If I keep subtweeting Coach Ledford enough maybe I’ll get the pork butt invite next time, or at least a taste of the famous Ledford cookies. In my heart I’m already part of the BOB family, let’s just make it official coach (I have no shame).
