Louisville continued their ridiculous recruiting run with the addition of Michael Gonzalez to the 2021 recruiting class. The Offensive Guard from North Carolina has been pretty tight-lipped with his recruitment but seemed to be a Louisville lean over the last few days. The 3-star prospect picked Louisville over NC State, Wake Forest, Duke and Virginia Tech. He also holds offers from Penn State, UNC, UVA, Ohio State, UK, and Florida.
Gonzalez plays Tackle for his high school but I believe the plan is to play him inside at Louisville. He shows all the traits that we’ve seen from the guys that Dwayne Ledford has been targeting. He really gets after guys as a run blocker and drives his man down the field. He can pull around and get out in front of the play as well. It’s hard to get a feel for his pass blocking skills because he doesn’t see a lot of speed rushers in his highlights. He gets to set up quickly and just push people around. Linemen are always a bit hard to get a feel for but the zone blocking scheme really requires guys that can move and Gonzalez can definitely do that.
Louisville now has three Offensive Linemen in the class with Gonzalez joining Aaron Gunn and Zen Michalski. I expect them to add one more guy with the potential for a fifth if they have room.
