Derrick Edwards Commits To Louisville Football

Frank Ponce and Bryan Brown team up to get a defensive back from Miami.

Louisville’s football staff got back to their hot streak on the recruiting trail today with a commitment from defensive back Derrick Edwards. The Florida prospect was expected to commit a few months ago but for whatever reason he decided to take his time. Edwards is a 3-star prospect who holds offers from Florida State, Baylor, Cincinnati, Miami, Michigan, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Louisville is getting a very versatile defensive back who could end up at Cornerback or Safety. He plays all over the field for his high school and you don’t really see a drop off as he moves around. He has adequate size at 5-11/175 and he is another guy that has long limbs and a solid frame. My thinking is that he will bulk up and end up at Strong Safety once he gets to campus but the fact that he can play different spots will only be a positive.

Edwards is an interesting prospect to me because he might underrated simply because he plays with a bunch of elite players. The third ranked Safety, Cornerback, and Defensive Tackle in the country all line up on this defense and they have two other four star players as well. I think there’s a good chance that Edwards slipped through the cracks until after the season when he picked up his biggest offers.
