Bryan Brown and his defensive staff picked up another recruit today when Kani Walker pulled the trigger for the Cards. Walker is a long-time target who recently backed off his pledge to Boston College. Walker is a 3-star recruit who holds offers from Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, and NC State.
Louisville is getting another long athlete with a really nice frame to build on. While he is being recruited as a Cornerback, Walker has the size to play Safety and he should also be able to play inside in sub-packages. Louisville is recruiting guys without a iron-clad plan on where they will play. That has allowed them to go after talented kids who can be molded into a role while also being fits for other areas on the field.
Walker is a bit raw when it comes to some of his coverage skills but he is pretty impressive in loose man coverage. He can play the ball without having to be sticky on the receiver because he has such great length. So instead of being in the receiver’s hip pocket he can detach and become a receiver himself. Walker also shows solid tackling skills and the “want to” when it comes to making an aggressive hit in the open field.
The staff should be adding one more Cornerback to the class at some point to join Walker and Rance Conner.
