Position: Outside Linebacker

Thoughts: I thought Geathers would get some run last year after putting on some size and taking a redshirt out of high school but I can’t say I anticipated him playing in eleven games as a freshman on a line that had some upperclassmen in Caban and Peterson. While the bulk of his reps came on special teams Geathers did get his hands dirty up front and provided some nice relief to a defense that could use certainly use a breather or two last season. While I think that…

******* POSITION CHANGE ALERT ******

The former lineman according to the almighty official roster has done a little two step backwards and is now listed as an outside linebacker. I went back and watched some high school highlights of Geathers and I think his patience and athleticism will be a nice addition to the linebackers group, plus the depth at defensive end is starting to stack up. While OLB also appears deep on the roster 6 of the 10 guys listed at OLB are upperclassmen and the staff is likely looking Geathers to add some younger guys along with the JUCO guys like Marvin Dallas. Geathers ability to get in the back field can still translate at the second level and I would not be surprised to see him utilized as an option in pass rushing situations. Here is one of those situations last year (3rd and 15) were Thurman (#95 at bottom of line) fights off a double team, pushes Perkins backwards, and forces a throw out of bounds to end the drive.

Sweet Tweet:

Five days into the 2020 countdown and we’re picking up steam. We’ve come so far. Before you know it though five turns into ten, ten into twenty, and then we’re breaking down third string O-linemen in the dead of summer. In March you wanted this, in April you needed it, and now in May you finally got it. We’re watching plays, we’re talking about players. It’s real. Ninety. Five. Days. Until. Football.
