Mattias Markusson, a 7’3 grad transfer from Loyola Marymount, will pick between Louisville, Minnesota, San Diego State and returning to LMU for his final season of college basketball. This according to a report from Evan Daniels of 247 Sports.
“All of those three schools are a perfect fit for me,” Markusson told Daniels. “As of right now, they need a big guy that can play right away. They have really good programs with good coaches and good conferences, especially Louisville, that’s arguably the best [conference] in the country. I would feel comfortable with any of those schools.”
A native of Sweden, Markusson averaged 10.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as a junior in 2018-19. He chose to redshirt the 2019-20 season following the sudden passing of his mother.
Here’s Markusson in action:
Chris Mack confirmed on Tuesday that, assuming Jay Scrubb does wind up coming to Louisville, he only has one remaining scholarship to work with and he’d like to use it on a front court player. Louisville’s 13th scholarship for 2020-21 will go towards meeting the NCAA’s punishments from the Katina Powell scandal. It will be the final year the Cards will be docked a scholarship.
The Cards have also reached out to another 7’3 grad transfer, Matt Haarms of Purdue.
