Louisville offensive tackle Mekhi Becton is headed to New York after being taken by the Jets with the 11th overall pick in Thursday night’s NFL draft.

Ken Kortas (9th overall in 1964) and Amobi Okoye (10th overall in 2007) are the only Cardinals to be drafted higher than Becton.

In 2019, Becton became the first offensive lineman in U of L history to be named First Team All-ACC. The 6’8, 370-pound native of Highland Springs, Va. was also named a Second Team All-American by Sports Illustrated.

Becton started 33 games at offensive tackle for Louisville over his three seasons in red and black. He registered over 60 knockdown blocks to help the Cardinals finish the 2019 regular season at 7-5 and 5-3 in the ACC — a turnaround of five games from the year before.

Becton is the 16th U of L player to be taken in the first round of the NFL draft, and the sixth to be selected by the Jets.

Congratulations to Mekhi and best of luck in New York.
