Louisville’s first game in the 2020 MGM Resorts Main Event benefitting Coaches vs. Cancer in Las Vegas will be played against Colorado State. This according to a report from Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
The second game on Nov. 20 will be played between Arkansas and San Francisco. The winners and losers of the two games will square off against one another on Nov. 22.
”We are looking forward to participating in this prestigious event among our early games next season,” said UofL Coach Chris Mack back in February. “The opportunity to play in this tournament in Las Vegas provides a great destination for our fans to follow our team on the road a week before Thanksgiving in what we anticipate to be great competition.”
The tournament will mark Louisville’s first trip west since playing Grand Canyon in Phoenix in 2016. Their last trip to Vegas for a tournament was in 2007.
Colorado State loses double-double machine Nico Carvacho — who led the nation in rebounding in 2018-19 — to graduation, but returns three double figure scorers from a team that went 20-12 in 2019-20. Spearheading that group is guard Isaiah Stevens, who led CSU in scoring as a freshman last season at 13.3 ppg.
Louisville’s only prior meeting against Colorado State came in the second round of the 2013 NCAA tournament, where the Cardinals prevailed 82-56.
With the U of L football team taking on Notre Dame the day in between these two games, Cardinal fans should be in for a lot of fun on the weekend before Thanksgiving.
