Louisville Football: encouraging past, bright future

Between 2000 and 2013, Cardinals football played in a bowl every year except 2007-09 and was 6-5 in those bowls. Since joining the ACC, Louisville is only 2-3 in bowl games, while missing just 2018. Does that mean the program has regressed? Not necessarily... In those pre-ACC years the Cards played lots of what we now call G5 teams (6 of the 11 bowls, going 3-3) and also faced a few ACC teams (4 bowls, 2-2). That leaves just one non-ACC P5 bowl opponent... but Louisville football made the most of it, beating the Florida Gators in the 2012-13 Sugar Bowl!

Now that there's an ACC patch on the jerseys, the Cardinals are playing more challenging bowl opponents. Since 2014, U of L has been in 5 bowl games and face a P5 team each time, winning twice. Is that a preview of good things to come? I think we all hope so (I'm sure you do if you're reading this!)

The biggest challenge Louisville football has had to face in recent years has been off the field - trying to hold on to the best coaches! Hopefully some extra ACC Network money will help in that regard.
