Louisville got more good news on the recruiting front today as defensive end Victoine Brown announced his commitment to the Cards. Brown has 40 offers including Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, LSU, and Notre Dame. His coach lists him at 6-5/240 while the recruiting sites have him as a little bit lighter. Brown is the first defensive commit in the class and he fills a need on the defensive line.

Louisville addressed some numbers issues on the defensive line in the 2020 class but they still need help when it comes to pass rushers. Brown should help them rectify that as he is a long athlete who can rush the passer as a 3-4 defensive end. Edge players typically find it fairly easy to be pass rushers from outside the tackle box but not all high school guys know how to do so when they’re playing inside of it.

Fans have also expressed concern about the defensive line being undersized. While I don’t share those concerns, I think it’s valid. Brown has the type of frame that should add bulk with ease. The hope would of course be that he can add that bulk while keeping his speed and quickness.

Who knows how recruiting goes with the situation we’re in right now but Scott Satterfield has to be happy with how this class has started.
