Evaluation:

Cooley is a nice fit for Louisville because he has long speed while also having the size to get tough yardage in their zone scheme. Louisville has targeted some bigger backs after their first cycle and Cooley is one of the few that has fit the criteria of being able to hit the home run like Javian Hawkins while also having some bulk like we see with Jalen Mitchell.

Summary:

This was one of the more interesting recruiting stories in this cycle as Cooley was considered a lock for Duke before Florida came along with an offer. While he was trending to Florida, it became the world’s worst kept secret that he would be committing to Louisville and surprising all of the national recruiting folks. He pulled it off and Louisville was also able to hold off a late Georgia offer to keep Cooley in the class. Norval McKenzie was the lead recruiter for Cooley who will enroll in January.
