Donovan Mitchell just went from wealthy to outrageously wealthy by signing a contract extension with the Utah Jazz worth a reported $195 million.
Mitchell is guaranteed $163 million of the deal, and he could make $195 million if he meets All-NBA criteria in 2020-21, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
In his third NBA season, Mitchell averaged 24.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game, and was named an NBA All-Star for the first time. He led the Jazz to a 44-28 record and the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. They were defeated by the Denver Nuggets in seven games.
I thought Donovan had a chance to be a pretty good NBA player. I did not think that his second contract in the league would be worth nearly $200 mil. I’m willing to admit that.
Congrats to our guy on not just getting paid, but establishing himself as the cornerstone of the Utah franchise for the foreseeable future.
