Ladies and gentleman Card Chronicle readers, year number eight of ‘The Cardinal Countdown’ is officially in the books. If you had a child immediately after reading my first post in this series (my writing has been known to induce spontaneous pregnancies), that child would be in 2nd grade right now. Our babies grow up so fast! While the hype surrounding this season may not be on the level of those in the past…I still wrote 100 posts dammit! Here are my favorites of the entire summer.
10. Day 36: Scholly Wants a Cracker
9. Day 27: Little Johnson, It’s A Medical Condition
8. Day 52: I’m In It For The Long Hall
5. Day 23: Welcome To The Family
4. Day 90: ‘Satterdays’ in The Ville
3. Day 100: I Got A Story To Tell
2. Day 66: How Do You Hide A Bentley?
For some of you this off-season flew by, for others the pain of the last 365 days may have caused the last few months to creep by slower than the last nine minutes of the Duke game. For whichever you are, I just want to say, thank you. This annual tradition is something that I enjoy doing but wouldn’t be possible without you all who read daily and always comment, read daily and never comment, or fall somewhere in between. This season I plan to continue my weekly Q&A series and the ‘Race To A Championship’ series. Plenty of opportunities for you to tell me just how big an idiot I am, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. This thing occupies a good portion of my life for four plus months and I’m glad to share some of me with you each summer, including the announcement of all three of my kids, and honestly….still looking for that support check, guys.
The story on 2019 is yet to be written but no matter how it turns out we know we have officially entered a new chapter in Louisville Football. I really like Coach Satterfield and the staff he has put together. If we can keep these guys around for 3-4 years, I truly believe we are competing for ACC Championships once again. Whether this season is a nice slow build up for future success or we come out firing like a Christopher Nolan flick it’s gonna be fun.
The new era of Cardinal Football starts today.
