Thoughts: We made it. Halfway there folks, and what better way to reach the halfway point than to close out the offensive lineman for the year. It’s been a good few weeks with my ‘Band of Brothers’. (Still waiting on my t-shirt from Ledford)

The story on Jean-Luc (I just nailed that French accent. You’ll just have to trust me on this one) is a bit of an odd one. Childs, coming out of Forest Park High School, signed on to play for Old Dominion back in 2015. After taking a redshirt his freshman season Childs and a few other players voluntarily sat out in 2016 due to some Title IX restrictions that forced the football team to reduce its number of scholarships to 116. It sounded as if Childs was geared up to rejoin the squad the following season and then… he got hit with a “seats taken, can’t sit here” treatment from ODU as they said the roster spot was still not available in 2017. ODU said they never promised him a spot, Childs disagreed, and unfortunately in this case circle did not get the square. Childs put in his transfer request and in perfect NCAA form, after all that fiasco, Childs was still required to sit out the 2018 season.

Childs walked-on last year and although he can play both sides of the ball it appears he is getting his time in on offense right now. In the spring most of his reps looked like they were coming from the tackle spot so the opportunity for Childs to get some backup PT may be there in 2019 and beyond as the Cards lose a few bodies there in the seasons to come. Best of luck to Jean-Luc (totally nailed it again) and much respect to him for battling through a tough spot and landing on his feet.

Sweet Tweet:

JLC doesn’t tweet much but he does retweet, so in honor of the 50 day mark and the last O-lineman on the roster this year…enjoy watching the big boys try and field some punts. Always entertaining.
