For the fourth consecutive year and the fifth time in the last six years, Louisville saw eight members of its current roster selected in the MLB Draft.
Leading the way was first baseman Logan Wyatt, who was taken in the second round by the San Francisco Giants. His selection at No. 51 makes him the eighth-highest draft pick in the history of Cardinal baseball.
Here’s the full rundown of Louisville players who heard their names called over the last three days:
Logan Wyatt, 1B — Second round, No. 51 overall to San Francisco Giants
Michael McAvene, RHP — Third Round, No. 103 overall to Chicago Cubs
Tyler Fitzgerald, SS — Fourth Round, No. 116 overall to San Francisco Giants
Nick Bennett, LHP — Sixth Round, No. 193 overall to Milwaukee Brewers
Bryan Hoeing, RHP — Seventh Round, No. 201 overall to Florida Marlins
Jake Snider, OF — 20th Round, No. 604 overall to Pittsburgh Pirates
Drew Campbell, OF — 23rd Round, No. 697 overall to Atlanta Braves
Shay Smiddy, RHP — 36th Round, No. 1,088 overall to Tampa Bay Rays
Additionally, U of L signee Michael Prosecky was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 35th round. Prosecky has since said that he plans to honor his commitment to Louisville and play for the Cardinals next season.
