After four exciting years of watching Asia Durr play for the Cards, a healthy contingent of fans couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a road trip up to Indianapolis to watch the Louisville legend play a WNBA game for her New York Liberty. Unfortunately after the Liberty only scored 9% to the Fever’s 60% in the first quarter, the Fever settled down and played in rhythm and the Liberty never quite got things going. Asia finished the game with 12 points, 2 blocks, 1 rebound, and 1 assist in 27 minutes of action.

Still, in just her second regular season game as a professional basketball player Asia had her moments. In the first half she seemed to be looking to pass first and not hunt shots. She should have had a few assists but as mentioned her team was only shooting 9%. In the second half she seemed to loosen up a little and a few shots started falling.

She seemed more comfortable and confident when she was bringing the ball down the floor instead of waiting for her guards to find her. As a Louisville fan we are used to those times she’d get to a corner and Arica Carter or Dana Evans would drive and dish it off to her for an easy 3. In the game last night they would finally pass it to her there but only after the defense recognized so the pass was either stolen or she no longer had an open shot. However, the Liberty a lot of talent (Han Xu, a 6’9” player from China, is going to be a phenom but at only 193 pounds she needs to add muscle and only played 11 minutes last night) so hopefully after a few months together they’ll gel and find success.

Asia Durr: “We started off slow. Our defense wasn’t great tonight. We missed some shots. As the game went on, we had some people come in and make some runs, get some stops. We had our spurts but we started off slow tonight.” #LibertyLoud #WNBA
