Dwayne Ledford landed a big commitment tonight with Kobe Baynes verbally committing to the cards. Baynes is listed as a 3-star recruit but that could change soon as he gets a full evaluation from the recruiting services. He holds offers from Michigan, FSU, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, and a few other power five schools. It should also be pointed out that most of those offers came in the last few months.
Two things have stood out to me when I’ve watched the guys that Ledford has targeted for the offensive line and that is the ability and desire to finish blocks as well as the ability to move outside of your area and get to your blocks. Those two things were jump out in Baynes’ tape. Baynes has great size at 6-4/295 and I really love the way he seals blocks in his highlights. With that size, a lot of guys just push people around, but it stood out to me that he turns his hips and gets his shoulders around on guys which opens a true lane for the runner.
Baynes is one of the few guys that I’ve seen that had an offer from the previous Louisville staff as well as the App State staff before the move. Louisville offered over a year ago before his recruitment blew up. He was re-offered in May and pulled the trigger tonight. Once again, the relationships that this staff developed with a recruit led to them picking the Cards over other power five programs. It’s a bit of a broken record situation but I do think it’s a big part of how this staff can improve recruiting in the long run.
