The Louisville baseball team will be the No. 7 overall seed for the 2019 NCAA tournament, which will kick off with regional play across the country next week.
Joining the Cards at Jim Patterson Stadium will be No. 2 seed Indiana (36-21), No. 3 seed Illinois State (34-24) and No. 4 seed Illinois Chicago (29-21). IU and Illinois State will play Friday at 2 p.m., with Louisville and Illinois-Chicago slotted for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
This is the fifth time in program history that U of L has been a national seed. Dan McDonnell led the Cards to the No. 7 seed in 2010, the No. 3 in 2015, the No. 2 in 2016 and the No. 7 again in 2017. Louisville and Florida are the only two programs to be a national seed four times since 2015.
Should Louisville advance out of regional play, the Cards would host the winner of the East Carolina regional in super regional play. That East Carolina regional features ACC rival NC State as the No. 2 seed.
