Louisville’s first ACC tournament championship won’t come in 2019. The top-seeded Cardinals fell 5-1 to Boston College Wednesday afternoon, guaranteeing that the 12th-seeded Eagles — who defeated Clemson on Tuesday — will be the Pool A representative in Saturday’s semifinals.
BC ace Dan Metzdorf dominated Louisville hitters all day, going a full nine innings to pick up his eighth win of the season. The lefty allowed just one run on three U of L hits, and struck out seven. Lucas Dunn (1-for-3 with a double) was the only Cardinal to notch an extra base hit.
While Louisville is still a lock to host a regional next week, the question now becomes whether or not the Cards need a win over Clemson on Thursday to shore up a top eight seed. First pitch for that game between the No. 1 seed and the No. 8 seed is set for 11 a.m.
