Louisville baseball locks up 4th Atlantic Division title in 5 years

And the Cards did it in emphatic fashion.

The Louisville baseball team thumped Florida State 14-1 Thursday night and in the process locked up its fourth ACC Atlantic Division title in five years. The Cards are now one win away from locking up the best record in the ACC and the overall No. 1 seed in next week’s conference tournament.

U of L jumped on FSU right out of the gate, getting home runs from Logan Wyatt, Alex Binelas and Zach Britton in the first inning to set the tone for the evening. The trio of bombs marked the first time since 2008 that Louisville homered three times in an opening frame.

While the offense was on fire all night long, it was a defensive play late in the game that made its way onto SportsCenter’s top 10 ...

Reid Detmers was sensational on the mound per usual. The Golden Spikes Award semifinalist struck out 11 Seminoles over six shutout innings. Detmers has now struck out double-digit batters in eight of his 13 starts, and his 138 strikeouts this season are the second most in U of L history.

The Cards will now look for some much-needed consistency from their No. 2 and No. 3 starters as we head into the weekend. First pitch for game two between Louisville and Florida State is set for 6 p.m. this evening at Jim Patterson.
