Strong v Petrino Recruiting

So i put this as a reply on the thread on Tee Webb.

But it was too much research / time to leave as just a comment reply.

So I'm putting it on here as well :-)

So, apparently I had time after the kids went to bed

Strong vs Petrino Draft picks
*Solely based on which HC recruited them
*Year given is that of the NFL draft

*Obviously more may come out of Petrino recruits....

STRONG
2014
3 First Round picks (Pryor, Smith, TD Teddy)
1 Third Round pick
2015
1 First Round pick (D. Parker)
3 Third Round picks
1 Fourth Round pick
3 Sixth Round picks
2 Seventh Round picks
2016
1 First Round pick (S. Rankins)
2017
1 Sixth Round pick
1 Seventh Round pick

PETRINO (both stints)
2005
1 Second Round pick (E. Shelton)
2007
1 First Round pick (A. Okoye)
1 Fourth Round pick (M. Bush)
2 Fifth Round picks (K. Smith; W. Gay : yes the one that brought us our only loss of the 2006 season and crushed NC hopes)
2008
1 Second Round Pick (Brohm)
1 Third Round pick
2 Fifth Round picks
1 Seventh Round pick (Urrutia : dude dropped off the face of the earth after that)
2009
1 First Round (E. Wood)
1 Fifth Round
2018
2 First Round Picks (LJ8, J. Alexander)
1 Third Round pick
1 Sixth Round pick

STRONG :
5 First Round Picks
0 Second Round
4 Third Round
1 Fourth Round
0 Fifth Round
4 Sixth Round
3 Seventh Round
17 TOTAL PICKS He recruited to UofL

PETRINO
4 First Round (and 1 Heisman)
2 Second Round
2 Third Round
1 Fourth Round
5 Fifth Round
1 Sixth Round
1 Seventh Round
16 TOTAL PICKS He Recruited to UofL

So there ya have it.

Strong with 1 more draft pick he recruited in the first 3 rounds. (9 to 8)
Equal in the lower rounds (8 to 8)
Strong with 10 recruits in the 2015 draft (by far the most ever)
Petrino with the only UofL Heisman recruit.
Strong did it in only 3 seasons.

All in all, both coaches did well on the recruiting circuit for the Cards.
