Louisville Football Lands Tight End Commitment

Dez Melton fills a major need for Scott Satterfield.

NCAA Football: Western Kentucky at Louisville Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

Louisville Football coach Scott Satterfield took over a roster that had major holes that needed to be immediately addressed and he took a step to fill a hole today with a commitment from Dez Melton. Melton will play tight end in college after being a highly productive running back in high school. Melton has the frame to make the move at 6-4/210 and he showed some skills needed as he was the second leading receiver on his high school team.

Louisville missed out on their top tight end target yesterday when Tyler Devera chose Maryland, but the staff has targeted an extra player or two at just about every spot and got their second guy this time around. Louisville will likely add another grad transfer and possibly a JUCO product at tight end, so Melton won’t likely have to be a reliable option this year. He should have the ability to redshirt while adding weight and learning the position.

We’ll have more on Melton and the rest of the recruiting class tomorrow as players are announced by Louisville Football.
