Evaluation:
Collins will play center at Louisville and I’m really excited to see how he develops there. This kid can really move and if he can master snapping the ball while also being able to get moving out of his stance, he can really thrive. Collins was being recruited as a defensive end by other schools and I think a lot of that was due to his motor and his ability to get to his spot while beating blockers. Those skills will transfer well in the zone blocking scheme.
Summary:
It took Dwayne Ledford some time to extend an offer to Collins. My initial reaction was that that was a red flag. It seemed like they were settling because he was a local kid. Collins ended up being named first team all-state in Ohio this year. So I think Ledford knew what he was doing. This staff has been fairly stingy with their offers. It took some time but the got a guy who played at a high level against good high school competition. I think he could be a guy that finds his way on the two-deep as a freshman.
