Evaluation:
I’m not sure I’ll ever get tired of seeing the same traits in different players this staff is landing. Baynes has really nice athleticism and he does a nice job of driving guys with his blocks. It’s much less about him just overpowering guys and pancaking people and more of him getting his hands in the right spots and moving people out of the way. Personally, I think that is needed more than guys who can put people on the ground with the system UofL runs. Baynes also looks good blocking in space. His injury will probably keep him out of spring practice but hopefully he can participate in workouts in the summer.
Summary:
Baynes had a season ending injury this year but Louisville still had to hold of Miami to get his signature. Baynes was a big get for Louisville as he had earned pretty much all of his big offers in the previous couple of months. Louisville’s staff offered Baynes back at App State and as we saw in the 2019 class, that relationship ended up meaning the difference in his recruitment. Baynes projects as a guard so he will likely redshirt, but he should provide quality competition to some of the redshirt freshmen on the roster.
