Evaluation:
Louisville needs “in the box” linebackers that can help to improve their run defense. Wilson is just that. He’s not a big linebacker but that doesn’t hurt his ability to take on blockers or bring down runners. He has a bit of James Burgess to his game as he gets to the ball in a hurry and with bad intentions. I think he fits the “Dog” position well as he doesn’t really show the coverage skills to play inside. I think that Louisville got a real steal with Wilson and he could be a guy that we see playing as a freshman.
Summary:
Kam Wilson was Louisville’s second commit in this class and the staff did a great job to stay on him and make sure that other schools couldn’t get a foot in the door late. He re-affirmed his commitment after an in-home visit from the staff and that was followed up by him getting a ratings bump from Rivals that made him a four-star. Wilson didn’t have a big recruitment and didn’t do all of the big camps but he could end up being the best player in this class.
