Louisville Dropped the Bomb on UT- Chattanooga

NCAA Womens Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Albany Regional-Oregon State vs Louisville Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

It was 80s Night at the Yum Center tonight, but the game didn’t end up being a thriller. It’s probably human nature to start slowly against an unranked team and Louisville didn’t score in the first 4 minutes of the game. Time after time the Cards missed wide open layups until finally they began to relax and then the shots started falling. The Cards began to push it and get physical and then they took control of the game. In the end another one bites the dust and the final score was 86-37.

Dana Evans had the eye of the tiger and she finished the game with 18 points. Kylee Shook them all night long and is proving we were right to have faith in her as she is working 9 to 5 on the boards. She had 12 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double in a row. Mykasa Robinson’s contribution doesn’t show up big on the stat sheet but she came in and played like a maniac and was the warrior on the defensive end.

Liz Dixon’s teammates told her don’t stop believing and she began to come up big down under. Her teammates couldn’t wait to tell her about it and celebrate. Elizabeth Balogun said, “That was really big for her. I was [so] excited for her. We all know she can hoop.” Coach Walz said, “I think if you saw her smile you’d know it was really big.” He added, “I’m hoping this gives her the confidence to get going.” If she keeps hitting it with her best shot then soon she’ll be automatic.

Coach Walz hopes his team gets the message that they need to stay focused on making layups all night long. “We get 22 offensive rebounds but we only score 18 points because we miss—rebound—miss—rebound—miss...and then THEY get the rebound. And then a couple of times we’ll put it back in on the third try.” He added, “If we’ve got to continue to get 22, 23 of them to get 19 second chance points then that’s what we’re going to have to do.”

He joked with Elizabeth Balogun that she’s a smooth operator, “She comes up with 11 rebounds and I think she boxed out twice. It’s pretty amazing. It really is....(but) she can look at the trajectory of the ball and see where it’s gonna go. But if I can get her to buy in to boxing out at times too then I think she can average 10 to 12 rebounds a night.”

Next the Cards look for a little respect in our house on Sunday. They take on Boise State at 1PM. The game is on ACCN Extra.
