Louisville football had a big recruiting weekend with thirteen recruits in town for an official visit. On Sunday, they got good news from three prospects that made the trip to Louisville. Scott Satterfield also secured a commitment from graduate transfer tight end Ean Pfeifer today. Louisville was able to fill needs today with commitments at tight end, offensive line, and linebacker.
Pfeifer is a transfer from Vanderbilt where he was a starting offensive linemen for two of his three years. He made the decision to transfer as well as change positions and Stu Holt keyed on him shortly after being hired by UofL. Pfeifer has always been 285+ pounds, so I’m not sure how they plan to get him down to tight end size, but his blocking ability could be a big help in the new offensive scheme.
I broke down the visitors on Friday in this post so I won’t go into a lot of detail on the other commits. I will say that the offensive line commits will be big for fixing the roster issues that the previous staff left over. Josh Black flipped from Georgia Tech and should be able to put on enough weight to provide depth next year. Jackson Gregory is more of a project as UofL was his only FBS offer. However, Dwayne Ledford targeted him as one of the first linemen he wanted and he landed him. Leford is regarded as one of the best offensive line coaches in the country, so I think it will be interesting to see how Gregory develops.
Louisville now has four offensive line commits which now gives them twelve offensive linemen on the roster. Satterfield has said that he wants to be around that number but I wouldn’t be completely shocked if they added another player. Louisville will likely see some attrition after spring practice, and they will probably take an extra few players in this class. Satterfield said they’re looking to add 8-10 players to the class on Howie Lindsey’s show last week even though they only have 8 open spots.
Monty Montgomery is the other commitment of the day. He’s a JUCO linebacker that will have three years to play at Louisville. Montgomery was a first team JUCO all-american this year as well as being named the conference defensive player of the year. I’ve talked a lot about “fit” with this recruiting class and Montgomery is a good example of that. I think that he will stay at outside linebacker at Louisville and he could definitely see the field this fall.
Louisville is also trending for a couple of other players on 247’s Crystal Ball feature. Ja’Darien Boykin stared trending early in the week after scheduling his official visit. Jamel Starks is also trending to UofL after his visit. Zach Edwards is trending heavily to UofL and also sent out a tweet that made it seem like he would be announcing a decision soon. I wouldn’t be surprised to see another commitment tonight or some time tomorrow.
Scott Satterfield has to be happy with the news he’s received so far with the potential of landing a few more guys from this big recruiting weekend. Louisville has likely filled the offensive line spots for this class while also landing the grad transfer spot at tight end. To be able to do that while also being in great shape with a handful of other players is a really good sign for the new staff.
