Georgia Linebacker Allen Smith Commits to Louisville

Cort Dennison strikes again.

Washington v Nebraska

Louisville Football got another commitment today when Allen Smith pick the Cards after his official visit. Smith is a three star linebacker that decommitted from UNC last month after their coaching change. Cort Dennison swooped in and made him a priority and Smith made his decision after spending the weekend on campus with the new staff.

Linebacker is a position of need and Smith is one of the best available prospects. Smith apparently missed most of his senior year with an injury. At least that’s what his Hudl video says (I can’t find any information on the injury anywhere). I think that may have hurt his recruitment a bit, but he was still pursued by multiple power five schools.

The word “fit” has a negative connotation when it comes to recruiting because it sounds like some sort of cop out. In reality, Louisville has to nail this recruiting class because they have roster management issues that they have to fix from the previous staff. They have to get guys that they know will fit what they do and Smith is exactly that.

I don’t know if Smith ends up at inside or outside linebacker but I like him outside because he has shown the ability to cover slot receivers. Either way, Smith is a guy that can run and bring bad intentions when he arrives. I’d be surprised if he didn’t at least provide depth to the linebacker group next year.
