Thoughts: Trotter was an add-on to the Cards roster last year out of JUCO as the departure of Bad Rad left a glaringly slim position room when it came to standout players. With no one man taking the brunt of the load I think Petrino knew that splitting carries was in the plan and an injury here or there could really decimate the offense….then approximately 26 running backs got hurt in the span of three weeks.
As Reggie and Malik Williams did their best to occupy the position Trotter found his niche on special teams, much like Thomas who we covered yesterday. Trotter played in nine games last year as part of the return team and even got a few carries against the ‘State Twins’ (Kent/Murray) and Syracuse. (Trotter also got a kick return against Wake Forest for 13 yds)
The running back position, in terms of production, is a question mark, but the position room will be crowded. Per Petrino and Kolby Smith the Cards will have a handful of guys get reps this year, and while I don’t forecast Trotter being heavily involved out the backfield he will certainly be in the mix on special teams once again.

Trotter threw up 365 last year…and then laughs in the face of that chump weight pushing 370lb (!!!) around like a boss last month. For reference, Trotter could go grab Mekhi Becton, while Becton is holding a 30lb plate….and push him up over his chest. Madness I tell you. Madness.

#23 Telly Plummer
Class: Freshman
Ht/Wt: 6-0/185
Position: Cornerback

Thoughts: The Cards, and Coach Ward specifically, went and snatched up Telly from the outskirts of Atlanta last year beating out Notre Dame and Georgia Tech late in the process. Telly is example number 2,328 of the Cards getting an athlete on campus for a visit, letting the young man see the football facilities, the dorms, the academic buildings, etc and then getting a commit shortly thereafter. Petrino preaches on it year in and year out “we gotta get them on campus” and now it’s easy to see why (Side note, haven’t seen many “big cookie” pics from recruits this year. If that purchase was removed from the recruiting budget…fix it, now).
Telly is described as an athlete but most recruiting services listed him at defensive back. In fact, most services had him as a Top 60 corner in the country. Telly can cover on an island, Telly has the speed to track down receivers, but Telly is known by most for his physicality. Catch a few of his big plays from last year below…
Telly may not get many reps in 2018 as the Cards have some depth currently but I could see him being a multiyear player as the roster starts to turnover. Would like to see him add a little size and strength but that’s a problem I have no doubt the staff will address as he settles in during the fall. If he can’t get on the field at corner in the next year don’t be shocked to see “hit stick Plummer” cutting teeth on special teams.
“Plummer….he won’t put up with your crap”
