Jody Demling is reporting that former Louisville running back Jeremy Smith has decided to return to Louisville for his final year after deciding to transfer after last season. Demling is also reporting that Smith has already returned to practice. This would be a nice boost for a Louisville backfield that is lacking in experience.
Smith only had 5 carries last year before he was lost for the season with an injury but he ran for 382 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2016. Smith has shown the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield as well as pass block. Both of those things have been mentioned by Bobby Petrino as absolute musts if you want to play running back for him.
We will have to wait and see if he’s in shape, but Louisville gets veteran depth at the very least with his return.
BREAKING: Former Louisville running back Jeremy Smith has returned to the Cardinals’ football program for his senior season per multiple sources. Smith went through his first practice on Tuesday afternoon.
