Red & Black Rants & Raves

Seedy K pontificates on that new logo and a couple other things

A moment of silence for John Asher. His love for his beloved WKU Hilltoppers was as deep and abiding as the love for the Cardinals of those who hang out here.

Everyone who has weighed in on his passing says essentially the same thing: He was a great guy.

True dat. There is no greater epitaph.

R.I.P., my friend.

If the category is Former Cardinal Stars Seen Out On The Town for $80, the correct answer: Who is Eric Wood lunching with a pal at Simply Thai?

Same category for $100, the correct answer: Who is Michael Bush with a friend dining at Artesano?

When it comes to Cardinal logos, my favorite forever and always is the Dunking Cardinal. I think the guy who designed it got something like $25. He deserves a bonus.

I also favor the RB Cardinal in the Heisman pose, which may have been rendered decades ago by the same person. Don’t know. It does way predate LJ, U of L’s only winner of college football’s premier individual award.

Anyway, this brings me to the latest entry in the logo sweepstakes.

Which, if you are asking me what I think, can fade into its own parade sooner rather than later.

I’m talking the Tokyodachi Cardinal.

You can get it on a hat, a pin, or a sticker. If you must.

Inanimate. Eerily similar in posture to logos created for most every school in the land. Eerily similar to an Angry Bird that decided to sell its soul.

But, hey, if it floats your boat, rock it when out and about.

Cardinal fall sports teams are smokin’ hot.

Women’s soccer is undefeated. 4-0 after bopping the Wolverines 3-1 in Ann Arbor.

Volleyball team W/L remains unblemished with a zed on the right hand side.

Men’s soccer opened its season with a 2-1 W over the Bonnies. That would be St. Bonaventure.

The Field Hockey gang is 1-1 in Big Ten play, and 1-1 overall, with a W over IU, and a narrow L to Ohio State.

Oh yeah, in case you haven’t noticed. It’s Game Week.
