Former Louisville center fielder Adam Engel has made a number of national headlines recently for robbing three home runs in the span of one week. The string of thieveries has also resulted in some national digging into Engel’s background.
For instance, if Adam hadn’t gone to Louisville to play baseball, he was going to be headed to Wisconsin to play football for (at the time) Bret Bielema.
“I talked to my family but decided to stick with Louisville,’’ Engel told The Chicago Tribune earlier this week. “Calling back Coach Bielema to say sorry was one of the hardest things to do, but I don’t regret it.’’
A quick look at Engel’s high school highlight reel (tip of the cap to Sean Moth) reveals what Bielema liked in the future Major Leaguer.
That sideline reaction on the second highlight is an all-timer.
I’m not saying Adam should have been starting over Teddy, but he definitely could have provided some QB support for that 2010 squad ... and maybe been a solid Wildcat option in 2011 and 2012.
