Thoughts: For those of you who don’t consider yourself “special team’s aficionados” first of all, what are you doing with your life, and second of all, allow me to reintroduce to you a young man who I consider one of the best long snappers in the country. Mitch Hall rolled into the program last year out of Clayton, North Carolina and acted like a 10 year vet from Day 1. Coming into the program as the #2 ranked long snapper in the country, Hall, in a matter of a few days, seemed to earn the starting long snapper job and did nothing; and I mean nothing, over the course of 2017 to lose it. Hall was graded out by the staff last year as having zero bad snaps as part of both the punt team and as part of the field goal unit.

So, other than the mechanics behind long snapping, or the relationship he’s built with both special teams units, what makes Hall so special? How about Game 1 of his college career, my man Mitch stands over the ball, stretches it out…drops it right into the hands of Mason King…sprints down field….and then proceeds to suplex the return man like a boss…

I know I love this stuff more than the average fan, but me and Coach Petrino are on the same page for sure. No bad snaps means the punter has one less thing to worry about, no bad snaps means the holder has one less thing to worry about, no bad snaps mean the kicker has one less thing to worry about, and no bad snaps means Petrino has one less thing to worry about. Such a small part of the game can absolutely change momentum, field position, and even the score with one poor twist of the wrist. Hall has my adoration, as do the rest of ‘The Regulators’ (special teams players at UofL). I’ll get to the other guys eventually but Mason King, Blanton Creque, and my man Mitch continued to earn their scholarships in 2017. I expect them to do the same in 2018.

Sweet Tweet:

Whatever it costs for me to watch a reality show where Mekhi Becton and Mitch Hall hang out all day…I’ll pay double.

Be sure to check out ‘Snap and Block’ coming to FreeForm TV this fall.
